About us
We’re Lauren and Matt, and we’ve been playing and posting about board games for over 10 years. We started Our Board Game Life to share our love of the hobby, posting reviews, game guides/lists and various board game adventures. Our content is honest and authentic, and our main goal is to help people find games that they will love. And we’ve been lucky enough to work closely with a range of publishers, from indies to big names. In addition to the website, we’re an active member of the board game Instagram community and post content there regularly.
We would describe ourselves as omnigamers who are happy to try most things, but we currently lean towards light-to-medium games that work well at two players, and that we can fit in around our cheeky toddler and menagerie of pets! Some genres we love include tile-laying puzzlers, deduction, push-your-luck, limited communication, lane battlers and pretty much anything involving nature. In addition to board games, we enjoy escape games/mystery casefiles, puzzles, and (in Lauren’s case!) jigsaws.

What content do you make?
We make honest, down-to-earth board game content, covering anything from:
- Reviews (including ‘First impressions’ reviews)
- Guides and listicles
- Events and venues
- General discussion and opinion pieces.
Reviews are our bread-and-butter, and you can see some examples linked below. We cover games at any stage, from pre-release prototypes (i.e. preview/crowdfunding copies) to established games off the shelf. We use the term First impressions review for prototypes that are subject to change (or in rare cases where it was not possible to play a game enough for a full review). The full review is posted on the blog alongside a supporting carousel post on Instagram. We’ve also reviewed board games, mystery cases, and puzzle books.
Our reviews are free
We don’t take payment for a review, we just need a copy of the game to play, whether that be gifted or loaned. If it is a loan, we would expect onward postage to be reimbursed when we send it on to the next destination.
Accepting a game does not guarantee that we will review it. And it doesn’t guarantee a positive review – but we will always try to be objective even if games aren’t ‘for us’, like highlighting positives and who we think would enjoy the game’. It’s important to us that our content is honest, fair and balanced, both for the audience and the game publisher/designer. If we don’t plan on doing a review, we will contact you to let you know and explain why.
We feature games we play on our Instagram stories, even if we don’t post a full review. We may also use review games for other content, like reels, discussion style posts or community hashtags.
