About us

We’re Matt and Lauren, and we’ve been playing ‘modern’ board games for over 10 years. Our Board Game Life evolved from our excitement sharing all our board game adventures. We’ve been sharing boardgame content since 2015 – first on Instagram and now on the blog too. After our son was born in 2023, we’ve been navigating the challenge of fitting in all the board gaming we can around a mischievous 1 year old and menagerie of pets! We’ve had an amazing time working with bigger publishers as well as smaller, independent publishers and designers. We’ve also covered the UKGE as a press member (2018-2019). If you want to know more of our story you can read it on our main our About Us page.

Our content options

We provided honest, down-to-earth board game content, covering anything from reviews to events and general board game discussions.

Reviews

Our reviews usually fall into two categories:

  • Reviews: these are standard reviews for games we have played enough times for us that we feel we’ve been able to fully explore what the game has to offer.
  • First Impressions: these are our initial thoughts on games we haven’t been able to explore enough for a standard review, for example a game we’ve had limited time with or where we haven’t been able to try every player count we’d want to.

We share our reviews on the blog and on our Instagram (this is usually a shorter version to fit Instagram’s character limit), and we’ve started sharing them on Board Game Geek as well. We are also developing our Bluesky account and Facebook page, so will also use these to signpost to our blog posts.

We’re also members of the UK Board Game Review Circle who work with board game publishers to circulate review copies of their games to UK board game content creators (you can read what Jamey Stegmaier thinks of the UK BG Review Circle on his blog!).

Our reviews are free.

We don’t take payment for a review, we just need a copy of the game to play, whether that be gifted or loaned. If it is a loan, we would expect onward postage to be reimbursed when we send it on to the next destination.

Accepting a game does not guarantee that we will review it. And it doesn’t guarantee a positive review – but we will always try to be objective even if games aren’t ‘for us’, like highlighting positives and who we think would enjoy the game’. It’s important to us that our content is honest, fair and balanced, both for the audience and the game publisher/designer. If we don’t plan on doing a review, we will contact you to let you know and explain why.

We always feature games we play on our Instagram stories. We may also use review games for other content, like reels, discussion style posts or community hashtags.

Other content

We do more than reviews! We also love to share content on:

  • board game events
  • visiting board game cafes
  • topic discussions and opinion pieces
  • board game giveaways
  • interviews with people in the board game industry
  • basically anything and everything in our board game life!
