About

Hi there! If you’re a publisher, game designer or board game enthusiast looking to collaborate with us, you can read more on our media page

Welcome to Our Board Game Life! We’re a board game blog where we share:

  • Honest, down-to-earth jargon-free reviews of board games and board game adjacent products (e.g. puzzle books, escape/mystery puzzle games, video game adaptations).
  • Interesting and engaging discussions on wider board game topics, such as sustainability.
  • Journals of our travels to board game events, conventions and cafes.

Our main social platform is Instagram, join us there for more board game fun or to have a chat.

Who is Our Board Game Life?

We’re Lauren and Matt, and we’ve been playing ‘modern’ board games since 2014. The first modern board game we played was Game of Thrones: The Board Game – and we didn’t like it at all! But it showed us the potential of what was out there waiting for us. Our first owned games were Carcassonne and Pandemic, which are still in our collection today.

The rest, as they say, is a tale as old as time. We played, bought and borrowed many many board games. Our board game collection expanded exponentially, filling shelves, cupboards and even the car glove box. We travel to board game events and conventions, and regularly stop off at board game cafes whenever we take a city break.

In 2023 we welcomed our amazing son into the world. Ever since, we’ve been navigating the new challenges of parenthood (what a wild ride!), and how to fit board game sessions around a 1 year old and a menagerie of pets.

Matt first started posting board game content on his personal Instagram 10 years ago. By 2017, his account had gradually evolved into a dedicated board game account with a blog (Mattimus Primed), before we finally settled on the more fitting name of Our Board Game Life. Due to some major life changes we did take a posting hiatus for a few years, which unfortunately coincided with our blog getting hacked and losing all of our old content. But now we’re back, baby, and better than ever!

We’re also members of the UK Board Game Review Circle, who work with board game publishers to circulate review copies of their games to UK board game content creators (you can read what Jamey Stegmaier thinks of the UK BG Review Circle on his blog!).

Review transparency

Some of our content is about our own games (or game-adjacent products) that we have bought ourselves, and some content is about games and products that we’ve been sent for reviewing purposes. We will always be transparent if a game is gifted or loaned.

When we’re posting content about gifted games and products, you’ll see an ‘Ad/Advert’ disclaimer at the start of the page. We don’t take monetary payment for a review, but gifted products are still considered payment (because we’re still getting something for free). So, we make that clear at the start of our blog posts. We also mark our Instagram content about gifted products as Ad/Paid partnership. (We feel strongly about our content being transparent, and this aligns with the UK Government’s guidance.)

We retain full editorial control of our content, whether a product is gifted or not! It’s important to us that our content is honest, fair and balanced. A gifted product does not guarantee a review, and a review is not guaranteed to be positive – but we will always try to highlight the positives or who might enjoy the product even if it isn’t for us.
